Top 3 reasons why everybody should visit Hanoi

There aren’t many places in the world that have managed to maintain an old-worldly atmosphere so expertly and supremely, but Hanoi has. Amidst the blinding city lights, mega malls, skyscrapers and the sleazy nightlife, Hanoi has managed to preserve the old town extremely well as the city still holds the culture, tradition, and the history of the times that have gone by.

Although it is was once the capital of Vietnam, the city is a perfect mix of subtle contemporary freshness and traditional and historical culture that will make you fall in love this little city even more.  Here, advancement and innovation wrestle with tradition and ancient culture, as you will notice about various parts of the city.

Unfortunately, Hanoi is a city that is often passed over by many travelers despite the abundance of shopping stops, stunning lakes, and incredible food.  You will never be short of something to participate in while in Hanoi. Here are the top 3 reasons why everybody should visit Hanoi:

1 The street cuisine

If you are looking to make reservations for dinner while in Hanoi; don’t. The best place to enjoy Vietnamese food in Hanoi is on small plastic stools located on the sidewalk.  Whether you prefer a fresh serving of noodle soup or bun cha, the street cuisine in Vietnam will have you impressed. At all hours of the day, you will find locals congregating under market sunshades or outside certain stores chowing down and engaging in small talk; this scene is quintessentially Hanoi.

2 The motorbikes

Upon arrival in Hanoi, you will be confronted with scores upon scores of motorbikes. As such, one of the first things that you quickly learn to do is how to hail a motorbike, and how to cross the street. You may think that you are adept at crossing the street; however, things are a little different here. Everything, especially traffic, is chaotic and incessant; which is part of the appeal and the adventure of the city, once you learn all the important ropes.

3 The markets

The markets in Vietnam are a one stop shop for everything; you can get anything in a Hanoi market from exotic fabrics and clothing to laptops and baby shrimp. Needless to say, you can cram all your shopping in one day, and what’s more, you can explore the rows of merchandise for hours. The best part about this is; everything is incredibly cheap.  If you are a traveler in the market for a location to shop without spending the amount of cash you would typically spend in places like Singapore or Bangkok, Hanoi is definitely the place to do so.
